Inaugural lecture by Professor Xing Ruan

摘要

Professor Xing Ruan's inaugural lecture on 22 September 2004 at Scientia was significant. It used history to help understand contemporary architectural issues. The lecture involved the teaching of architecture, the nature of architecture (what architecture celebrates), two contemporaries from the University of Pennsylvania and importantly a parallel between Chinese architectural development and Western architectural development. Indeed, it gave new understandings of both Louis Kahn and Yang Tingbao, that is, Western and Chinese culture developing from a French Beaux-Arts teacher.
