Speedboats and freighters: architecture and the public interest

By chance, two books arrived on my desk about the same time; they were Paul Goldberger's why architecture matters (2009) and the International Confederation of Architectural Museums (icam) report, icamprint 03, on its conference at Helsinki in August 2009, which commemorated the founding of icam in 1979. Both books are concerned with the public reception and understanding of architecture looked at from two different standpoints.
