Greater Sydney Commission challenge: Can it integrate money, politics and design?

What do progressive cities like New York, London and Chicago have in common? The answer is metropolitan level governance. Alexandras Washburn, former chief urban designer of the New York City Department of City Planning under Mayor Bloomberg, in his book The Nature of Urban Design (Island Press, 2013) states that economics, community and design, in equal measure shape effective, resilient, equitable and well-designed cities - in other words, money, politics, and design are given equal consideration and are integrated.
