Some scholarly environments just ooze intellectual energy. They do it with such intensity that they become homing beacons for a certain sensibility of thought and-with time-acquire an almost legendary status within a specific intellectual community. When it comes to feminist Science and Technology Studies (STS), the most famous of such places is probably the University of California Santa Cruz. This has been the home of a circle of friends and collaborators who have coalesced around the philosopher of science, Donna Haraway, during the past four decades.
