Author Nigel Hiscock, a PhD-trained architect, was until retirement Principle Lecturer in Architecture at Oxford Brookes University where he is now a Visiting Research Fellow. Among his prior publications is The Wise Master Builder: Platonic Geometry in Plans of Medieval Abbeys and Cathedrals. The 421-page book contains dense text, 191 figutes, and a 19-page bibliography divided into Classical, early Christian and Medieval, and Post-medieval sources. It also has 44 pages of chapter endnotes, a 19-page index, contents and a list of figures. The book consists of a prologue, six chapters titled: The sphere and the cube, Temple and body, Ad Triangulum, Ad Quadratum, The architectural geometry of the pentagon, and "The whole frame of the universe, and an epilogue.
