摘要

Liberal arts and science building is a facility where three Kyoto universities' (Kyoto Institute of Technology, Kyoto Prefectural University, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine) liberal arts and science are taught in collaboration. The facility is built in Kitayama region next to Kyoto Botanical Gardens, which is richly endowed with nature. Thin PCaPC columns are placed at 1,800mm (1 Ken) intervals and PCaPC T shaped floor plates (ST plate), which allows span over 14 meter without showing of beams, are utilized to provide various class room sizes and to offer future wall partitioning flexibility. Solar radiations from east and west are blocked off by the thin columns, and 3,000mm (1 Jo) sized canopy would block solar radiation casted from higher altitude. Delicate combination of these elements allows the building to blend with Kyoto's townscape. Void space within main corridor inspires occupant interactions and also act as "Eco Void" that induces natural ventilation and lighting. Other various energy conservation measures are taken to deliver the building that is appropriate for the city of the Kyoto Protocol.
