摘要

This is one block of New Town planned in northern Japan region. We produced a design policy and supervised the developers during the process with it. including block design such as land allocation, landscape and residential planning. Even in such an artificial plan as a New Town, we thought there must be the way to gain a kind of urbanity. The idea was to put the"street"on all the boundaries and make the house exposed to the-city". In this case we treated the whole block area as a public environment with these pedestrian alleys, and tried to give all the houses a value as a collectivity, controlling privacy, creating forest, and fostering interaction and environmental value, in order for us to escape from the tough situation where residents from different regions gather into a new town at a time have no choice but to rely on the enhancement of their communication over the fence, in the neighborhood park and space, or on the main road which derives this oppressive enclosure in conventional modern planning. Here we tried to overcome the subordination between civil engineering and architecture, whole and parts, public and private by removing the hierarchy of time and scale and treating various elements in a same time. We can reverse the bore city and head towards new creation by transforming the foundation and the precondition of the planning, without intervention in the details of the design.
