Mark Titman, thinker, painter and director of the small Dorset-based architectural practice Titman Design, has undertaken 10 years of research into green architecture. During this time, as a senior lecturer at Greenwich University and while running Unit 22 at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL), with Jeremy Till, he and his students have explored the broadest notions of sustainability. He was tutored by Elia Zenghelis and Pascal Schoning before practising with John Miller, Trevor Home and Richard Horden. His artwork includes printing and painting, in which he depicts the immersive sense of space that the countryside and parks can give their inhabitants. Many of his pieces are used to vitalise the spaces where they are hung. He uses various techniques including channelling, marbling, collage and watercolour washes to benefit from the intuitive and happenstance complexities of the media in order to convey the animate nature of such spaces.
