Jolson (formerly Stephen Jolson Architects) has thTee new houses. At first glance, one of these houses in South Yarra house looks like an abstracted or updated version of Neil Clerehan's 1965 house nearby in Domain Road. Urban houses of this period of modernism may have offered a template that is here then refined and attenuated to achieve quiet precision. The gleaming white forms here have a defensive task but also delineate individual components of the composition. Privacy is ensured for the residents but the apprehension from the street is given considered attention via setbacks and landscape.
