RECYCLING AND RECOVERED PAPER CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

We need to do our part to close the recycling loop and reduce contamination of recyclables through: 1. Education. 2. Reasonable garbage bin size to avoid overflows to recycling bins. 3. Collecting only what can be recycled. In this case, less is more. 4. Recognising the value of Container Deposit Scheme quality and the issues around glass which can be mitigated by excluding glass from household mixed collections of recyclables (drop off centres may fill this gap). 5. Overall: make it valuable by keeping it separate. We can aim for and eventually achieve a Zero Waste Circular Economy. We have the power to create a more sustainable society that uses and reuses the resources it has. It all depends on making an investment in improving design, collection, reprocessing and behaviour. Those that embrace the change will see the benefits.
