This is a time of changes, some of them interesting, some of them of great concern to economists and sociologists, others of concern to world and national leaders who are called to look at their own methods of planning, forecasting, and politics. Tourism is an activity that touches the social, environmental, as well as the economic aspect of any country or state. Even the slightest threat to travel security, or to national or regional stability can have an adverse, albeit temporary, effect on tourism activity. Such threats can also be caused through natural occurrences, such as the Japanese tsunami in early 2011. There is always something that will threaten the stability of a relatively sustainable and peaceful activity such as tourism and this is why it is important to focus attention on planning and policy development.
