Review on sensors to measure control rod position for nuclear reactor

Control rod plays a crucial role in the safety and operation of the nuclear reactor. Meanwhile, the measurement of the control rod position is conducted by the control rod position measurement sensor (CRMS), which concerns the start-up, power regulation and shut-down of the nuclear reactor. However, there still lacks research on comprehensive reviewing the state of art progress on the CRMS of the nuclear reactor. In this review, we first introduce the classifications of the CRMS, which includes the inductance type, non-inductance type, and so on. Then, we explain principles of various CRMSs, in particular, physical models of the inductance type in details. Furthermore, the experimental and numerical validation of the CRMS, which include the calibration, validation of static measurement, validation of scram performance test, numerical validation of the CRMS are illustrated. Lastly, further concerned issues of the CRMS are discussed. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
