Bridging the Gap between Statistical Practice in Academe and Industry

I recently had the opportunity to attend an Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences roundtable. INFORMS is a group organized to represent the needs of operations research and management science organizations in industry with respect to the greater INFORMS society and to promote operations research and management science excellence in practice. The roundtable meets three times a year, with each meeting showcasing invited speakers from both academia and industry who present on a theme topic of relevance to industry operations research and management science practitioners. Meeting participants are primarily from industry, with management representation from companies spanning a variety of sectors, including high-tech, media and entertainment, distribution, and travel and transportation.
