Uganda Statistical Society Is Revived

The Uganda Statistical Society was founded in 1980 as a professional body to bring together all statisticians in Uganda. The society was dynamic until the mid-1980s, when inactivity seized and settled upon it for nearly two decades. On January 15, 2005, the society was revived by a group of about 70 members with the following objectives: promote the collection, compilation, tabulation, analysis, and publication of statistics in public and private agencies in Uganda; stimulate and promote research in statistics, its teaching, and its applications in planning and decisionmaking in the public and private sectors; communicate with other national institutions and international organizations engaged in research, teaching, and the application of statistics outside Uganda; and educate decisionmakers and the general public on the vital role of statistics in planning and decisionmaking.
