Budget Cuts Threaten Work of Statistical Agencies

The most recent meeting of the Council of Professional Association on Federal Statistics (COPAFS), held March 9, 2007, focused on the budget issues facing federal statistical agencies. Presentations were given by two panels, one made of agencies involved in economic data and one made of agencies involved in demographic data. Overall, federal statistical agency budgets are tight, with many receiving little, if any, increase. Details about each budget are presented below, and a table showing the budget history for statistical agencies since fiscal year 1995 is available at http://members.aol.com/copafi.
