Members Had Mile-High Time at JSM

The meetings in Denver went well for the Business and Economic Statistics Section (and the ASA as a whole). Overall attendance was around 5,500, the second-largest ever (but dwarfed by the 50k Democrats who came later in the month). Our section sponsored about 20 sessions, plus the Economic Outlook Luncheon, business meeting, and joint mixer with the Section on Statistics in Marketing (thanks to Wendy Moe, Section on Statistics in Marketing chair, for her support). The approved budget continues support for the Shiskin Award for Economic Statistics and the Zellner Thesis Award. It adds support for the Fourth International Conference on Establishment Surveys, planned for 2012. Also, money was budgeted for a student award related to next year's JSM and a $10 subsidy for members attending the Economic Outlook Luncheon.
