Highlighting the ASA Presidential Address and Awards ceremony in Denver, Colorado, were the announcement of the Founders Award winners and the official induction of 53 ASA Fellows. The Founders Award is given for extended, outstanding service to the statistics profession through a variety of leadership roles. As in prior years, the names of the winners remained a closely held secret until the ceremony. The 2008 Founders Award winners are Linda Young and David Scott. Linda Young, University of Florida, for extraordinary leadership of the ASA as vice president and as chair of the Council of Sections, chair of the Section on Statistics Education, and chair of the Section on Statistics and the Environment, as well as leadership of many other statistical societies, including service as president of the Eastern North American Region of the International Biometric Society (ENAR) and chair of the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS); for outstanding contributions to leadership and scholarship in statistical methods research-particularly for agricultural, ecological, environmental, and public health studies-and in editorship of the Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics.
