Thanks for the memories with the article "How to market a milestone" (July 2011). The centennial series of war games produced by Milton Bradley and its Avalon Hill division were my introduction to Civil War history. It was a sort of reverse chess game where each player, representing the many military groups, entered the game on a time sequence. Each unit was given a rating based on the number of men, their condition, etc., and extra value was awarded for being on high ground, "digging in" and building fortifications. What a great educational tool for learning about battles, tactics and the names of the various commanders and units participating in the battle. I was engrossed in the contest, became an avid reader of Civil War history and could win the game whichever side I was the commanding general of, North or South. What fun. I hope they come back.
