摘要

"It's a long story," Colin Conger recently told Vermont's Times Argus, but it's a tale Conger has told often lately in the hope of finding a prized family heirloom. His great-great-great-grandfather, Capt. George Parker Conger, fought at Bull Run, Culpeper Court House and elsewhere, before mustering out to tend to his invalid wife. At that point, the men in Company B of the 1st Vermont Cavalry honored Conger with an inscribed presentation sword, given to him on September 16, 1862. The sword's inscription reads: "Presented to Captain Geo. P. Conger by the Officers and Privates of Co. B. First Vermont Cavalry as a token of respect for him as an Officer and a Man, Sept. 16, 1862."
