Symposium spotlights disinfectant residuals

Disinfectant residuals will get top billing at the first AWWA symposium to be devoted to protecting water quality in the distribution system. The international symposium—Protecting Water Quality in the Distribution System: What is the Role of Disinfectant Residuals?—will showcase speakers from Europe as well as North America. The symposium will be held April 26-28 at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia City Center in Philadelphia, Pa. An overview of American and European disinfection practices and drinking water quality regulations kicks off Sunday's opening session. The symposium promises to provide a "broad view of the subject" according to Joe Jacangelo, chair of the AWWA planning committee and vice-president of Montgomery Watson. "Probably most important, those who attend will come away with ideas as well as practical knowledge on how to better operate their distribution systems in terms of applying and maintaining disinfectant residuals," he said. The symposium will provide the opportunity to see how others have solved problems and to discuss methods, rationales, and solutions.
