Resolutions

I have already started this arduous task by recycling three tablets from 2003―exercise more and eat less, listen more and talk less, and hug my wife, daughters, and grandkids more often. But I need two more to make my life truly worthy. So, in the spirit of starting 2004 with teamwork and cooperation, I will share these with you on one measly condition―that you make them part of your own list. Get your chisels ready. First, I hereby resolve to provide the best customer service possible. I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but in the hurry-scurry environment in which we all work it is all too easy to get consumed by budget concerns, billable hours, sales quotas, union contracts, and political issues and forget why we have chosen this profession―to protect public health. In order to do that effectively, at least in my humble opinion, we have got to keep the customer uppermost in our minds and plans. I feel this is essential regardless of whether your customer happens to be a water consumer, water utility official, contractor, distributor, or co-worker.
