Just too many messages running through crowded synapses, I guess. But the management gurus say that we (organizations in par-ticular) are going to have to be far more inno- , vative in the twenty-first century, or we will stagnate. So, what is innovation? According to our friend Webster, innovation is the act of making new changes to something already well established. Pretty scary stuff—new and change—two words that strike fear into the hearts of even the most stalwart among us. We like "tried and true" a lot better. There is something in human nature that repels change, and we hesitate because of the perceived pain and suffering we expect will closely follow on the heels of innovation.
