Dow Selects Spanish City For Its Water Technology Center

Dow Water Solutions, a business unit of the Dow Chemical Co., has announced that it will build a Water Technology Development Center at the company's facilities in Tarragona, Spain. The new facility, which will include capabilities for product application development and component testing, is designed to accelerate the commercialization of Dow's membrane and ultrafiltration technologies. Dow is investing $15 mil- lion in the center, which is expected to open at the end of 2009 and employ 25 researchers to work on such issues as providing clean water in the 21st century. The company has been granted subsidies from the Spanish government for the research programs in this area, which is in line with the government's commitment to research and development, specifically in the field of sustainable water supplies. The center's proximity to the Mediterranean Sea will provide access to seawater, with additional options of accessing brackish water, industrial wastewater, and treated river water.
