Bridging the engineering workforce gap through community outreach

The National Science Foundation has predicted a shortage of 70,000 engineers by 2010 (ASQ, 2009). At the same time demand on water resources continues to increase, along with the need to meet this demand through conservation, water reuse, and new treatment technologies. To address these concerns, Techbridge-a program whose mission is to encourage girls in grades 5 through 12 to consider careers in technology, science, and engineering-has collaborated with dozens of corporations, engineering firms, universities, foundations, and youth development organizations to provide training and resources for today's engineers to become role models for tomorrow's engineers.
