Probability and Statistics for Computer Scientists

Many excellent probability textbooks exist for mathematically advanced audiences, but few books cater to students with moderate mathematical backgrounds. This new textbook (hereafter PSCS) specifically targets this latter audience, requiring only univariate calculus and a little matrix algebra. The author intends the book for junior-level students and higher in "computer-related fields," but students of all majors will benefit from the author's fine presentation of applied probability models and computer simulation. The casual writing style might be off-putting to those seeking a rigorous treatment of probability, and the later chapters on statistics are not strong, but neither of these detracts from the author's overall ability to present modern, computer-oriented probability techniques to an intermediate audience.
