USFWS OKs Endangered Listing, Plan

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced March 27 it was listing the lesser prairie chicken as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The final rule to list the bird will be effective 30 days after it is published in the Federal Register. Wildlife listed as threatened or endangered under ESA can be neither killed nor harmed, the agency's website says, and federal agencies must consult with US- FWS before undertaking actions that could harm a species or damage its habitat.
