Geophysical Techniques Redefining Reserves Potential Of 'Mature' South Texas Field

Introducing advanced geophysical, horizontal drilling and multistage fracturing technologies in old geology is giving new life to Swift Energy Company's AWP Field in South Texas, considerably extending the limits of the field and enhancing economics through improved well performance and recovery. Located in McMullen County, AWP is Swift Energy's oldest producing property. But it also is where Swift has implemented an active horizontal program targeting the Olmos tight sandstone as well as the underlying Eagle Ford. The Upper Cretaceous Olmos is found at depths of 9,000-11,000 feet. The permeability of the soft, fine-grained sandstone is 0.1 millidarcies or less, requiring hydraulic fracturing to yield economic quantities of liquids-rich gas. Production from the depletion-drive Olmos reservoir averages 61 percent dry gas, 32 percent natural gas liquids, and 7 percent oil on a barrel of oil equivalent basis.
