BOEM Plans To Change Finance Assurance Rule

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement have proposed a rule they say is intended to clarify, streamline and provide greater transparency to financial assurance requirements for the offshore oil and gas industry.A Sept. 17 announcement from BOEM notes that under current regulations, the BOEM regional director may determine that additional security is necessary to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of a lease, including decommissioning liabilities.
