In their nice editorial in the March issue of the Journal, Kiley and colleagues list the strategic priorities and procedures of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to streamline human health research up to 2025. From a historical perspective, we all recognize the significant achievements of the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the NHLBI, with decades of success, that have facilitated breakthroughs in promoting health and fighting disease by funding key research both internally and extramurally, including internationally.
