Napoleon Bonaparte famously said: "Let China sleep. For when China wakes, she will shake the world." This was recently brought into the 21st century by trade and industry secretary Alan Johnson who said: "China is not only waking up. She's had her breakfast, put her coat on and left for work. Imagine what will happen when she gets there." Johnson's adaptation of Napoleon's comment came at the umpteenth conference aimed at reassuring business leaders that UK plc is working to catch up with China on her way to work. His department is making big investments to establish good connections with China. And it would appear that a little time spent learning the language and culture before a trip over there could give your business the edge.
