Summary of proceedings of the 2007 ASHP Conference for Leaders in Health-System Pharmacy

"Scanning the Radar of Health-System Pharmacy: Developing Strategies and Tools for Successful Leadership" was the theme of the 12th Annual ASHP Conference for Leaders in Health-System Pharmacy, held October 15-16,2007, in Chicago.rnTop health-system executives brought perspectives from the "C-suite" to plenary sessions. Wayne Riley, the president and chief executive officer of Meharry Medical College, offered eight steps that leaders can take to transform their organizations. Three health-system executives gave their perspectives on how pharmacy leaders can effectively demonstrate their departments' return on investment (ROI), and three pharmacy leaders described their interactions with top executives at their health systems. Pharmacy should be represented at system-leadership meetings on a regular basis, and the department's ROI should be presented at least twice a year.
