Praise For Ashp-a Tribute To Leaders

Many of you were here yesterday for the presentation of the Donald E. Francke Medal. It was a touching moment-one I shall always remember.rnBecause Donald E. Francke loved poetry, I will begin with a poem I found tucked away among Don's papers. It is "The Lover Pleads with His Friends for Old Friends," by W. B. Yeats: Though you are in your shining daysrnVoices among the crowd And new friends busy with your praise, Be not unkind or proud, But think about old friends the most: Time's bitter flood will rise, Your beauty perish and be lost For all eyes but these eyes.rnThe purpose of my remarks today is to say thank you to all who have brought us to this moment-to praise ASHP and pay tribute to past leaders of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the old American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. While I, like many others, may have wondered about the reasons for the name change, my mind went back to what our founders and early leaders would have thought.
