Planning in Central Florida: An Example for Us All?

Out of that discussion came six guiding principles: * Preserve open space, recreational areas, farmland, water resources and significant natural areas * Build communities with educational, health care, and cultural amenities * Provide a variety of transportation choices * Encourage a diverse, globally competitive economy * Foster distinctive, attractive, and safe places to live * Create a range of obtainable housing opportunities and choices. Environmentalists fear those roads and other proposed projects in parts of Central Florida could fragment remaining natural areas, harming their function in protecting biological diversity and natural wildlife corridors and making them harder to manage to protect rare species.
