When a person wants to sell the family car, he or she usually takes several steps before listing it for sale to get the most money out of it. Selling a business is no different. The first thing you do is to make sure that it starts easily and runs reliably. Next, you want to have it cleaned thoroughly, inside and out. You want it to smell good, and have a complete list of its options and its best attributes. You'll want to have accurate information about its real operational costs, gas mileage, repairs and oil changes. You will need to be prepared to tell prospective buyers about its comfort and safety features. If you're reading this, you probably also own a dryclean- ing plant you'll one day have to sell. But the market is not what it once was. The stock market has been shaky, and a number of large financial institutions have collapsed, affecting some of your most prized customers drastically.
