Wash procedures for wetcleaning suedes, leathers and trimmed-cloth items include the following steps: (1) testing for colorfastness; (2) pre-washing to set or fix the dyes; (3) washing to condition and remove soil and stains; and (4) prefinish rinsing to condition and soften the skins, enhance colors, and add body and firmness. First, test for dye colorfastness to determine the dyes' serviceability in wetcleaning. Some suede and leather garments are colored with dyes that are sensitive to water; they can bleed in wetcleaning. Be especially concerned when garments contain multicolored panels or trims, if the care label SDecifies "Drvclean onlv." and if the garments contain vivid colors such as red, black, maroon or blue. Test for colorfastness using water carrying the wetcleaning products that will be used in cleaning the garment, in the same ratios. Apply this water/detergent solution to an unexposed and inconspicuous area of the garment.
