Drycleaning and coin-operated laundry may seem like two completely different businesses, but that's not how Jim Gleason sees them. In 1997, Gleason opened Laundry Lounge, a combination drycleaning plant and coin-op laundry, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Gleason's gamble paid off and 10 years later, in June 2007, he opened a second Laundry Lounge in Grand Island, N.Y. Both locations offer wash-and-fold service, as well as a full range of dry- cleaning services including alterations and tailoring, leather and suede service, wedding-gown service, and restoration. "We get a lot of crossover customers," says Gleason. "It makes more sense for them to take care of both their drycleaning and laundry needs in the same place, instead of wasting time between two separate locations." The Grand Island store in particular receives a lot of business from nearby campgrounds. Visitors clean everything from clothing to camping gear.
