The electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CO using nickel macrocyclic materials has been realized for over three decades.1 In particular, [Ni(Cyclam)]2+ (Cyclam = 1,4,8,11- tetraazacyclotetradecane) is known to be an efficient, highly selective electrocatalyst for the reduction of CO2 to CO in aqueous solution when using a mercury working electrode.2 We are interested in nickel macrocyclic materials that display higher efficiencies and equal electrocatalytic selectivity. In addition, the ability to change the product selectivity by modifying the working electrode, nickel macrocyclic material, or pH of the reaction solution, is of particular interest.
