STEP is an alternative process to convert and store solar energy which experimentally provides higher solar efficiencies than the most efficient photovoltaic solar cells,1-2 and efficiencies and A/cm2 current densities, which are 1 to 3 orders of magnitude greater than those achieved by photoelectrochemical water splitting or photoelectrochemical solar cells.
