Particle-Size Characterization 101

NIST has developed a recommended practice guide about particle-size characterization, with an emphasis on ceramic powders, for nonexperts concerned with particle-size characterization. The National Institute for Standards and Technology has published a handbook entitled, "NIST Recommended Practice Guide on Particle-Size Characterization." The handbook was prepared primarily for nonexperts and emphasizes ceramic powders. This guide is designed to provide a general user—one who is not familiar with issues related to particle-size characterization—information about various aspects of particle-size and size-distribution analysis. Although this guide is not intended to be an exhaustive resource, it does concentrate on some techniques commonly used in the ceramic-manufacturing industry.
