Having grown up in India, the ancient artpf henna was an ingrained aspect of Sandy Patangay's life and culture. When she moved to New York City in 2001, she wanted to combine the historic henna design she knew from her homeland with"the contemporary style she now lived in. She established a henna studio, but was always searching for other ways to express these classic designs. She decorated a few cakes for friends, several of which caught the attention of food bloggers.
