The recent trend for cupcakes and other small tastes at weddings, either as part of a dessert buffet supplementing a smaller main wedding cake or replacing the traditional wedding cake, remains popular, but most of those we interviewed felt that other alternatives are trendier. "Our most popular non-cake alternative is the cake pop, often served as a favor as well," said Gabrielle Feuersinger, owner of Cake Coquette in San Francisco, CA. "We're coming up with ever more creative and elegant designs."
