Cochlear Implants: A Perspective

For auditory perception of low intensity phonemes and audiovisual perception of low intensity sentences the severe group with hearing aids and the cochlear implant group scored significantly higher (p < .01) than the profound group with hearing aids. [...] in 16 of 18 comparisons there were no statistically significant differences between a group with profound hearing losses wearing hearing aids and a group with profound hearing losses who had received cochlear implants.
