The statistics about the growth of China's aluminium industry in recent years have been astounding to many people across the global aluminium industry and associated industries, and even overwhelming to some people. In 2009, China produced 12.895m tonnes of primary aluminium, which was nearly 44 times as much as the figure of 1978. In the same year, China consumed about 41% of the total amount aluminium market, as China becomes the next economic powerhouse of the world. Since aluminium represents the second largest metals market in the world, the developments of China's aluminium industry may be seen as a barometer of the global aluminium market as well as the global metals market.
