Electroslag welding: A new technology to weld busbars in smelters

Numerous welding joints are involved in the construction of the busbar network of a new smelter or the increase in capacity of an existing smelter. The Electroslag Welding (ESW) offers a new option to perform these tasks. It has been successfully used industrially, permitting significant productivity gains both in terms of time and manpower savings. Among others advantages, it allows the possibility to modify or repair busbars in magnetic field of an operating smelter with minimum power shutdown time: about 20 minutes per full busbar section weld and per machine used.
