I have only now gotten around to reading my copy of the August 2011 issue of Airways, interested as always to read an article relating to the Australian air transport scene with the profile of Strategic Airlines ('Will Strategic's Strategy Work?'). The answer to the question posed by the article's headline would have to be a resounding: 'Probably Not!' As David C Forward mentions, the conventional wisdom has always dictated that-when speaking of trunk route flying, at least-Australia can only support two airlines. That is not quite correct. The real answer is that at any one time the market will support two-and-a-bit airlines.
