However, the year before I had truly been on top of the world. That previous fall I had received a phone call from Captain 'F' at Frontier Airlines, who wondered if I was still interested in a position with that Denver-based company. Resisting the urge to somehow crawl through the phone and kiss him, I accepted what had been my dream job as a first officer on the Boeing 737-200. I had just celebrated my 24th birthday. The intervening 12 months had been cruel. I had experienced the death of my best friend in a light airplane crash. And my girlfriend at the time―a FAL flight attendant―also decided to leave in search of a 'new' life and career. Being broke, down, but not out, I left Colorado in a desperate attempt to revive my career and aviation dream.
