African A220 acquisition

NIGERIA'S IBOM Air has taken a pair of 2019-built Airbus A220-300s on lease from EgyptAir. The Pratt & Whitney PW1500G-powered duo, SU-GFA (c/n 55061) and SU-GFD (c/n 55062), arrived in the West African nation in June. Previously, the Egyptian flag carrier had deployed both jets, unpainted, under its Air Sinai subsidiary on connections between Cairo International and Tel Aviv/Ben Gurion. As reported by ch-aviation, EgyptAir had recently decided to take the route in-house, limiting the use of the jets. Following their arrival with Ibom, the A220s have been adorned with the company's titles ahead of entry into service. It is understood SU-GFA (pictured) and SU-GFD will allow Ibom to expand internationally - at present it flies to five domestic destinations: Abuja, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos and Uyo. These have been flown by its inventory of five Bombardier CRJ900LRs, 5N-BWL (c/n 15158), 5N-BWM (c/n 15182), 5N-BXO (c/n 15283), 5N-BXP (c/n 15284) and 5N-BWK (c/n 15271). In other developments, Ibom Air and fellow Nigerian carrier, Dana Air, have entered into a domestic codeshare agreement.
