Turkmenistan Eyes European Return

TURKMENISTAN AIRLINES was expected to restart European services from June 1, having been banned from entering EU airspace in early February. As the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office explained on its foreign travel advice website later that same month: "The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has suspended Turkmenistan Airlines flights to and from the EU pending confirmation that it meets international air safety standards." Birmingham was connected to Ashgabat between February 6 and March 5 by Spanish wet lease specialist Wamos Air's Airbus A330-200, EC-MJS (c 265) operating on Turkmenistan Airlines' behalf. However, there have been no further services between the Midlands city and the Turkmen capital. The carrier's three other European destinations, London/Heathrow, Frankfurt/Main and Paris/CDG, have not been served in any capacity since the ban took effect.
