RFI released for Hawk Mk127 replacement

THE AUSTRALIAN Department of Defence released a request for information (RFI) to industry on June 2 as it looks to replace the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF's) Hawk Mk127, which is due to be retired in 2026. The RFI fora Hawk replacement is part of Air 6002 Phase 1 (Future Lead-in Fighter Training System), which is valued at AUS$4-5bn and expected to run between 2022 and 2033. Air 6002 calls for a platform on which to train RAAF fast jet pilots and weapons systems operators, plus a secondary requirement to provide Blue Air and Red Air training. The Department of Defence expects the Future Lead-in Fighter Training System will use a mix of live and virtual training roles, including aircraft as well as full-mission simulators.
