Despite a difficult economic environment, values of the 737-400 freighter conversion are proving resilient. The Boeing 737-400, together with the -300 and -500 models, is part of the family that has become known as the Classic generation of the 737. The 737-400 passenger version was launched as a stretch of the original -300 model and is the largest member of the Classic range. The stretched model accommodates up to 168 passengers and first entered service in 1988. According to the Aero Transport Data Bank (ATDB), a total of 488 aircraft were built, with a peak annual production rate of 82, which was achieved in 1992. The last new -400 was delivered in 2000.
